If you thought friendly fraud was bad before, you better brace yourself – fighting it could get more challenging than ever.
A flurry of new rules and regulations, including Visa Claims Resolution (VCR), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the second Payment Services Directive (PSD2) are designed to strengthen the ecosystem in the long term. But sometimes well-intentioned policies and regulation can have unintended consequences. In some cases, both criminals and abusive cardholders may have new opportunities to exploit these rules to commit fraud and falsely dispute legitimate transactions.
During this webinar Ethoca experts will reveal new research that sheds light on the early effects these regulations are having on fraud rates (both criminal and friendly) across industries and regions, and touch on issues many payment stakeholders may not have considered:
- By retiring Reason Code 75 “Transaction Not Recognized”, where will this volume shift and what is the impact on merchants?
- Does GDPR’s “Right to Erasure” provide cover for criminals? Does it further embolden friendly fraudsters?
- What ripple effects will PSD2 create across the ecosystem?
- What solutions exist to help merchants and issuers address the potential impacts?
